Bake Happy Friday Round Up

This week on Bake Happy!

• I was looking for a good food subject because I wanted to start a new hobby and then I remembered these cupcakes I made a couple of years back - Rosewater Pistachio Cupcakes. Looks good enough to eat? yes! 

•  Good enough to sketch? Double yes! Because that is exactly what I wanted to try. Watercolor sketching. I have been a long time fan of Florine Asch. There are no words good enough to desrcibe her work. Then I found the equally talented Arlene Sy. Such amazing work on her site. Many times, I've attempted to start sketching but I think now is the most serious I am about it. Hope I can find time to hone this one :) 

•  Want to what I came up with? Yup, a watercolor rendition of the Rosewater Pistachio Cupcakes :) Yeah I know, I need practice and patience! Lots and lots of patience, I realized it's harder than it looks like.

• And oh, I had an idea for a Valentine post. Inspired by the phrase "The key to a man's heart..." but for some reason, the group of images I shot for this tutorial isn't working. So sadly, I decided to scrap the idea. Here'a picture though :) 

•  Not sure if you remember but I made mint macarons last Monday. Don't you just love the smooth shell and gorgeous feet? I don't know about you but I love chocolate and mint!

•  Then last Wednesday, I showed you how I made this fondant high heel shoe topper. Abso - bloomin - lutely perfect for a fairy tale themed party. Yeah, totally adorbs.

• I finally got to try a Chilly Burger from Sebastian's. This one's their Red Velvet. I like the cookie more than the ice cream. But maybe that's just me. 

• Have you tried Havana? These are chocolate coated wafer sticks filled with choco hazelnut filling. I am not exaggerating when I say you miss half of your life if you haven't tried it. Proudly Pinoy made. Go Rebisco!

And just like that, January went *poof*. It's February now. Close your eyes. Open them again and it's December. Just kidding. 

How did your week went? Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

• After three unsuccessful attempts, I finally got it right. If you haven't seen it, here's the easiest macaron recipe ever. I can not wait to play around with it more! I have even read about a crazy flavor combination, think about an expensive spice, a fruit that has a misleading name, and sugar in a different form. Let's see if it will make it to this blog. 

• And yes, it was my sister's birthday last Monday. I made her these cupcakes which has a cute cake topper which I showed you how to make. Here's how.

• On to some exciting news!!! They're Playing our Song will have a run this February at the RCBC Plaza! Who's watching? I am!!! I can not wait - yeah, someone's downloading the soundtrack in her phone as I type this :) Now, I have to find out how to get tickets!

•  I did mention that it was my sister's birthday last Monday right? For her birthday weekend, we wend to Davao for a food trip. Sharing with you some of the sketches I made with an awesome app Paper 53. 

• Since we're only there for the weekend, my sister booked us an early flight. To pass time while waiting to board, I decided to sketch the girl in front of me :)

• On board the plane, I was reading a magazine when I saw fell in love with a beach house. If I remember correctly, this is Lilom in Batangas. It's now my goal to visit this house. 

• When I'm not at home, my favorite thing to do is sleep - probably because I rarely do when I'm at home. So here's our bed, so comfy to just hang out here and read then sleep :)

•  Davao is well know for Mangosteen and Durian. I ate a lot of Mangosteen but unfortunatety, I wasn't able to taste durian in it's purest form. We weren't allowed to take it to our room. But the good thing is, I was able to have some durian sans rival and durian brazo mercedez :) Yummy!

•  Here's my last Davao sketch, kuya at the Magsaysay Fruit Market slicing a small durian.

I'm looking at these sketches and I smile. I'm pretty rusty when it comes to sketching. I need to practice more!

Bake Happy Friday Round Up

Yes, Friday! It's time for (the first ever) Bake Happy Friday Round Up:

• This week, I showed you how to make these uber cute boat cupcakes. Uber cute, uber easy, uber fun. Here's the tutorial.

• I also found the best brownie recipe ever made. Thank you, Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito for the recipe. We owe you big time. (Shh... there are still some left in the fridge that I munch on while sleep walking at night)

• Then there's this lonely looking Caramel Flavored Sans Rival - a Bake Happy blooper it is. But I'm dusting myself off and will try again.

• I was actually looking forward to see Hugh Jackman on the big  screen this week, but I just found out Les Miz wouldn't be shown until next week :(. Oh well, I've waited long enough, I guess another week wouldn't hurt. As advised, I'm bringing lots of tissues with me.
• Be Careful with My Heart Recap - I'm pretty sure this Mango Ref Cake post totally established my status as a Maya and Sir Chief fan. And this week was really a sad one on the show. Maya's crying all the time! You are so mean Sir Chief! Say sorry already. Ayan tuloy, nag-resign si Maya. And oh, if you are like me who can't get enough of the show, here's a site that's a feast for us fans! A fanfic site dedicated to Maya and Sir Chief made by their fans. Go ahead, read and smile.

• And oh, Bakerella made brownies this week, too! What can I say, great minds think alike :)
• Perhaps a trip to Bohol is in order? I am addicted to Bohol Bee Farms Pesto spread. I can't think of anything else.
• My friend Kat sent me this link last Monday, a good read. I guess I still have 9 years and 3 months to master them. 
• And so The Academy has already announced the nominees for the 85th Academy Awards. Which films are you guys going to watch? I don't know about you but I"ll be watching the... Oscars itself because Seth MacFarlane is hosting. Just saying. Giggity gigitty goo.
