Iconic Outfits: The Terno

Hey Time, can you please pause for a bit? I just have one more post to publish before the day ends. Here it goes!

Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan! Happy Philippine Independence Day to all Filipinos!

Last year, I did Philippine Flag themed cupcakes [for the tutorial, see here]. This time around, I decided to pay tribute to the dress that is uniquely Filipino - the Terno. To find more about the Terno, here is a very interesting article from Bisean. When researching for this post, their article has proved to be very useful, thanks Bisean!
The one Terno that caught my eye was the one made by Salvacion Lim Higgins - the classic black Terno from the cover of her book, SLIM published on 2009. It was sooo beautiful I wasn't able to resist making a cookie version of it.
What  we'll need -

  • Sugar cookie shaped like a dress [for the cookie pattern, you may trace it from the cookie below]
  • Black fondant
  • Pink fondant shaped like a rosette like the photo above
  • Rolling pin

Procedure:

  • Roll out black fondant and cut out the shape of the Terno

  • Making the dress a two-dimensional one wouldn't do it justice so using what's left of the black fondant, I made it a three dimensional cookie. First up, the bodice and the sleeves

  • The skirt is next. The main part of the skirt has a "ruffled effect" so I thinly rolled the black fondant and curled it unevenly to create the texture similar to the skirt.

  • Nearly, finished! The upper part of the the skirt (just so you know, I am not that familiar with fashion terminologies so I'm literally grasping for words as I write this. A little help, please?) has this extra layer so I attached it to the dress as well.

  • Lastly, I attached the rosettes on the skirt.

Okay Time, it's time do your thing now.
Enjoy the week ahead, everyone!!!

Happy Cupcaking!
Aikko
